Opera was first made public on 14th July 1996, when Jon von Tetzchner, Opera co-founder, announced the launch on usenet.
Opera version 7 was released in 2003. It had a new rendering engine feature, called Presto, enhancing and expanding its support for standards.
Opera version 8 was released in 2005, and later that year all the advertisement banners were completely removed and Opera is now completely free!
